Are we allowed to send small things (e.g. pens) through mail?

By regulation of the US Postal Service...

I want to send a pen to my friend. It would be inserted into the envelope along with my letter. Would it cost more or would putting the standard $0.41 stamp on it be ok.

Also, if the envelope is a certain size, do I have to pay more too? Like, those yellow envelopes that can fit a regular 8.5 x 11 sized paper without you needing to fold it up. Thanks!

If an envelope is higher than 6-1/8" or wider than 11.5" or more than 1/4" thick it is considered a "flat" (large envelope), which start at $0.80 for first ounce.
Reply:I have purchased pens from Ebay. It is best to use the small manila envelopes that are lined with bubblewrap. Then also wrap the pen with kleenex or paper towel about 1/4 inch thick and secure it to itself with scotch tape. It will cost you around $1.50 to mail it.
